Wellesley Schools to collect data on climate of race and diversity

October 26, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

Wellesley Middle School

This from the Wellesley Public Schools:

The Wellesley Public Schools remain committed to our core values of Commitment to Community and Respect for Human Differences.  We strive to be a school district that feels inclusive to our students, staff, and parents and where diversity is viewed as a strength that benefits everyone.  We also know that we have work to do to meet these goals.

With this in mind, we are conducting town hall / focus groups to collect data on the climate of race and diversity within WPS.  We have two primary interests in conducting this assessment.  First, we want to be sure we have baseline data that provide a clear picture of where the District is today as defined by students, staff, and parents.  Second, we want to use these data to inform the development of a multi-year action plan.

As the next step in this process, we invite you to participate in a Town-Hall / focus group. The first meeting is tonight (10/26) from 6:30-8:00pm at Fiske Elementary School in the gym.  The second is on Monday (10/30) from 6:30-8:00pm at Bates Elementary School in the gym.  Elementary parents from any of Wellesley’s schools are encouraged to attend either evening. Wellesley Middle School and High School parents are invited to attend a third session that takes place on Wednesday, November 1st at the Wellesley Middle School auditorium from 6:30-8:30pm.

The comments provided in interviews and focus groups will be used to shape and inform continuing discussions, and decision-making processes as WPS continue its efforts toward becoming a stronger community.

Please note that your identity will remain anonymous.  A summary of the responses will be made available to the WPS community after all data has been analyzed.

These Town-Hall / focus groups are being conducted by the Kingston Bay Group, LLC, an independent consulting firm committed to diversity and inclusion.
