MassBay Community College will hold its annual OneBook Project speaker event, featuring author Michael Anthony, on Thursday, November 2, at 11AM. Anthony has been selected by the MassBay OneBook Project and Wellesley Reads Together to present on his book “Civilianized: A Young Veteran’s Memoir” to the community.
According to MassBay, Anthony’s memoir reflects on his 12-month deployment in Iraq as an operating room technician. His feelings of numbness and rage upon reentry into civilian life led him to alcohol, drug abuse and suicidal thoughts. His salvation arrives by chronicling his wartime experiences. His message that coming home from war can be more horrific than war itself.
The OneBook Project is a college-wide partnership with the Wellesley Free Library that invites students, faculty, staff and members of the Wellesley community to read a common text and engage in discussions around that text. The goal is to create an interdisciplinary learning community that explores issues relevant to the text and our community.
