Wellesley Marketplace and WHS to offer “Shop and Show” deal

November 10, 2017 by admin Leave a Comment

Sweeney Todd Matinee Attendees Get In Free to Annual Craft Fair; Both Held at Wellesley High School on Veterans Day

SPONSORED POST: Love getting your holiday shopping done in one fun, easy spree? Do you also enjoy watching young performers shine while doing their thing in an award-winning Broadway musical? Then don’t miss this year’s Shop & Show Deal that combines a ticket to Wellesley High School’s Fall Musical, Sweeney Todd-Demon Barber of Fleet Street with free admission to the Wellesley Marketplace—both at WHS, 50 Rice St.,  on Saturday, November 11.

Love these colorful batik dresses from Three Islands Clothing that manage to be both preppy and island chic. This island style vibe was created by cousins Justin and Phil in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, after a surfing trip to Bali.

“We are pleased to offer attendees the opportunity to experience both of these annual favorites,” said Sabreena Kropp, vice president of fundraising for Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC), which organizes the annual Wellesley Marketplace. “Come enjoy a day of handcrafted, visual, culinary and performing arts.”

Sweeney Todd is a dark, witty Tony-award winning Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim that is rife with love, murder, revenge and some of the most chilling music written for stage. Guests who have pre-purchased tickets to the November 11 2pm Sweeney Todd show will be granted free general admission to Wellesley Marketplace beginning at 10am. Additionally, because Wellesley Marketplace is occurring on Veterans Day this year, veterans and active-duty military also will be granted free general admission.

“Half of the funds we raise every year go to scholarships for local high school students. We are grateful to partner with WHS educators, parents and students in our efforts to help the Wellesley community,” said Janice Kwan, president of WHJWC. In 2016-17, Wellesley Juniors gave away $70,000 in college scholarships and $70,000 in community grants to Wellesley-area community groups.

Coastal Living has named Coop’s MicroCreamery a 2017 Food Award winner for their hot fudge, which comes in a vegan version. They also make the incredible all natural Cocoa Felice, a vegan, non-GMO and gluten-free hot cocoa mix made with European chocolate.

 Sweeney Todd, Wellesley
As an homage to one of the more melodramatic plot points of Sweeney Todd, Wellesley Parents of Performing Students (POPS) will be selling sweet and savory pies during the Wellesley Marketplace.  Sales from “Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop” will support performing arts programming across the school district. Another Wellesley nonprofit — Community Investors — will be selling meat pies as a fundraiser.

Wellesley Marketplace is an annual retail favorite — and the unofficial start of the holiday season — for those seeking unique, locally-made gifts for family and friends. More than 200 local artists and craftspeople will be selling products from Patriots wall art and fairy house kits to cake pops and cherry-scented hair ties.

This will mark the second year in a row that the Wellesley Marketplace will be held at the recently built WHS. Last year, Wellesley Marketplace drew a crowd of 1,700 shoppers, including about 500 who paid for premium admission tickets to get early access to all the event has to offer. Additionally, free parking will be available at MassBay Community College with a shuttle bus running all day to the high school.

Wellesley Marketplace is the largest annual fundraiser for the WHJWC. Last year, proceeds from the event helped WHJWC give away more than $140,000 in college scholarships to Wellesley high school students and grants to Wellesley-area community groups.
