Wellesley mourns the loss of WHS junior Sarah Calcio

November 20, 2017 by Deborah Brown 18 Comments

Wellesley High School and the entire Wellesley community is mourning the death of Sarah Calcio. Sarah was an 11th grader at the high school and was found Monday morning at home having died in her sleep.

The 17-year-old was an honor roll student, and a Latin scholar who received the Summa Cum Laude Gold Medal in Latin Poetry on the National Latin Exam. Sarah volunteered as a youth basketball coach, served as a peer minister at her parish, and babysat, according to her obituary.

Sarah is survived by and lives on in her parents, Susan and John Calcio, and her sisters, Maggie and Lucy Calcio.

The high school will have extra clinical staff available in the house offices all day on Tuesday, and the school support staff has been working to identify students who might need additional support.

Our condolences to Sarah’s family and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 27 at 10 AM in Saint Paul Church, 502 Washington St., Wellesley; interment will be private.
