Bopping around Wellesley, early December

December came in like a lamb, and members of the Wellesley Gardeners’ Guild took advantage of the mild temperatures to add some festive greenery to several of the large pots at the main library. We may not have our own front step pots ready for the holidays, but by oh my gosh, my golly, we’re taking care of holly business somewhere. Find the club member pictured below who blew off the Service League monthly Barn Meeting for this. Hint: it’s not me. I’m too much of a slacker for Service League. Definitely the type of club that wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) have me for a member.

One of these WGG members is not as innocent as she looks

Artist/tough guy

Meanwhile, inside the library I came across Wellesley resident and photographer Ed McGuirk hanging his beautiful nature compositions in the Wakelin Room. He said he couldn’t smile for the picture because he’d lost a tooth while playing hockey. How bad-ass is that? A sensitive artist type who also plays a contact sport for keeps and leaves it all on the ice. McGuirk’s exhibit, “Four Seasons of New England Landscapes” will be at the library through December. The public is invited to an artists reception on Tuesday, December 5, 6:30 – 8:30pm. Refreshments will be provided.

Block out some time to see this exhibit

Love it when the parking meters don their holiday apparel

Wellesley free parking
One of my favorite annual Christmas gifts of the season — free 2-hour metered parking in Wellesley for the month of December.

Amazing, the things I see when I look up

Check out this wasps’ nest I spotted on a walk around Lake Waban. The chickadees loved it. They were darting in and out of what was once the wasps’ entrance. Must have been a tasty meal of some sort in there.
