It’s totally going to be the best Christmas ever, now that the Massachusetts Horticultural Society has announced that the Cheney Bridge leading from Route 16 on the Wellesley/South Natick line into Elm Bank Reservation has re-opened. The bridge closed on December 11 for repairs and it was said that work could continue right up until December 24. Enough Wellesley residents (and others) who use the recreation area must have been on Santa’s nice list though, because at 6am on Thursday, December 21 it was ready to serve all who wanted to cross over the Charles River and into Elm Bank for a brisk morning walk or run.
I’ve missed Elm Bank terribly for the past 10 days. It’s not like I couldn’t have gotten there somehow, someway. But now that the bridge has re-opened, I’m much happier. I’ll take my chances with the trolls that live under the refurbished bridge over the perils of trying to slip in the back way and past the Turtle Lane crowd any day.
