Smith & Wollensky making things more official in Wellesley

Future home of Smith & Wollensky in Wellesley

We’ve known since we broke the story last summer that high-end steakhouse Smith & Wollensky was steering toward Wellesley to take over Ming Tsai’s shuttered Blue Ginger restaurant. A little later, the company finally confirmed the open secret, saying they hoped to open in early 2018 in what they are calling their “first suburban setting” at the 538 Washington St. space.

Besides having hungry residents with plenty of cash to drop on menu items such as their 24 oz. USDA Prime Bone-In Rib Eye at $66, company big-wigs apparently think Wellesley also has plenty of parking. How wide-eyed and adorable of the city slickers.

If corporate says so, it must be true

At any rate, they just announced that they’re planning to making good on their early-2018 opening goal with this statement from their corporate office: “Smith & Wollensky is pleased to announce that it will be bringing a taste of “America’s Steakhouse” to the Boston area suburb of Wellesley, Massachusetts in spring of 2018…The restaurant group is targeting a mid-April opening date for the new location, just in time to cheer on Boston Marathon runners at the race’s halfway point.”

Just so you know, Smith & Wollensky, if you can’t quite open your doors on your target date, the town will forgive you that. But officially open for business or not, we are holding you to that cheering on the Boston Marathon runners thing.
