So, You Have to Wear Glasses …
There was a time when wearing eyeglasses was so uncool! Mainly because eyeglasses were ugly, nerdish and boring. Everything worthwhile always changes for the better, though, and spectacles have blossomed into statements of class and definitive style.
Enter: Agnes Vision of Wellesley!
Located at 582 Washington Street at the Belclare, Agnes Vision of Wellesley, is a sophisticated optical shop specializing in the latest high-end, fashion-forward eyewear that is both tasteful and smart. Owner Agnes Hui opened the shop in July, 2018. She had previously worked for Vision Optics on Central Street in Wellesley before opening her own shop.
“I’ve spent 23 years in this wonderful town and counting,” Ms. Hui said. “It took time to find the right space in Wellesley and time to build the right style space that I felt would reflect the town. Ms. Hui explained that the reason she got into the eyewear field in the first place was because of having to wear glasses as a child. “My vision, and the reason I chose the optical field is that I have been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old. I was not happy with my first pair; there were not a lot of choices at the time. It was not glamorous to have to wear eye glasses.”
Despite the offerings at the time, Ms. Hui donned her glasses and carried on with her life, going to study art at the Massachusetts College of Art, with a dual major in painting and photography. She then went to graduate school at Cambridge College where she studied psychology, while working full time at a halfway house. Though the work was noble, “it did not pay well enough to live on,” Ms. Hui said, “so I decided to research the optical profession.”
Ms. Hui has been a licensed Optician for 30 years. “I came into the profession hoping to make a difference in the style, quality and service that I saw was missing. After I became licensed and was able to work anywhere I wanted, I only wanted to work in the Town of Wellesley. I have come to know and understand the uniqueness of this wonderful community. The people of this community have treated me so well and I am appreciative of everyone,” Ms. Hui said.
Agnes Vision of Wellesley is open Monday–Wednesday, 10am – 5:30 pm, Thursday, 10am – 7:00 pm, Friday, 10 am – 5:30 pm and Saturday 10 am – 4:00 pm. 781-235-9200.
