Task force members sought for defining Wellesley’s Profile of a Graduate

This from the Wellesley Public Schools:

The Wellesley Public Schools (WPS) are preparing to embark on an effort to develop a Profile of a Graduate (POG), i.e., what our community wants a WPS graduate to know and be able to do. It is essential that our conversation about the POG includes multiple community stakeholders. We are therefore seeking interested community members to join a POG Task Force – in particular, students, graduates, parents, educators, as well as leaders from local businesses and higher ed institutions.

As the District strives to prepare WPS students for success in college, career, and life, the focus has been on integrating 21st century learning principles into the curriculum.  Our partnership with EdLeader21, a national network of school and district leaders focused on integrating the 4Cs into education — critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity — is expected to help inform our ideas of a Profile of a Graduate.

The Task Force will meet three times over the course of the spring to help build Wellesley’s POG and will seek additional input before making a recommendation to the School Committee by the end of this school year.  The sessions will be facilitated by Ken Kay, CEO of EdLeader21. Working closely with Drs. David Lussier and Joan Dabrowski, the Task Force will meet from 4:00 – 7:30 pm on these three dates:

  • Wednesday, February 7th
  • Wednesday, March 7th
  • Tuesday, May 1st

If you are interested in serving on this task force, please fill out this application form.  You must be able to commit to participating in all three sessions for the entire duration of each session. Please note that space is limited – we want to ensure all community stakeholders are well represented in this task force that will be capped at 50 members. The application deadline is Friday, January 19, 2018.

Please be aware that, thanks to a grant from WEF, Ken Kay will be at Wellesley High School on January 22nd to give a keynote presentation on 21st Century Learning and the concept of a Profile of a Graduate. The presentation is open to the community.  Stay tuned for more details.
