The Wellesley Conservation Council recently received a $3,000 grant from the Wellesley Turkey Trot Foundation to design and add interactive plant identification markers along the trails at its Guernsey and Pickle Point Sanctuaries.
The markers will provide the common and scientific names of selected plants and trees. Visitors can use their smartphone to interact with a plant-specific QR-code on each marker that will link to further web-based, plant-specific information that can also be used in structured programs to educate youth and interest adults in matters of conservation.
QR-code markers will be placed on portions of the Guernsey and Pickle Point trails by early summer. Installation will be complete by late summer.
