Wellesley High junior Maggie Donahue kicked off Boston Marathon weekend activities in style by winning the BAA girls’ scholastic mile in Copley Square, holding off Newton’s Caroline Barry down the stretch to finish in just over 5 minutes and 11 seconds.

Schools whose communities are along the Boston Marathon course each get to have a couple of high school and middle school boys and girls compete in this annual event that crosses the Boston Marathon finish line.
