Wellesley High School students present findings at Science Poster Night

It was Science Poster Night at Wellesley High School, a yearly event when sophomores and juniors present their scientific findings to the community, and the community generally comes away having leaned that germs are pervasive and resistance is futile. Here are some pics:

These students studied the secret to a clean mouth. Apparently the more alcohol content a mouthwash contains, the cleaner your mouth gets. Left to right: Nick Kolb, Matthew Karofsky, Duncan Brown

Their project explored the germiness on the WHS library computer keyboards vs. an average person’s laptop keyboards. As expected, there was plenty of yuck to go around, but apparently the librarians have better procedures in place than the rest of us.
Natalie Taplin (black jacket) and Katie Meister (red t-shirt) were the official scientists in charge of this project on the effect of sand on the growth of brassica rapa plants. The other two students were just nearby and available for a photo shoot, and the more the merrier, so why not?

Embedded in this multi-material art display at WHS is a line from a Mary Oliver poem: “Tell me what it is you plan to do with your one wild and precious life…”
For the WHS kids last night it was science. Impressive job on your wild and precious projects, students.
