The Wellesley Fire Department recently wrapped up its 16th annual Fire Rescue Camp for middle school students.
The kids hosted by Lt. Matt Corda, Lt. Paul Delaney and firefighter Dana Gerrans (and supported by the Wellesley Youth Commission and Maura Renzella), experienced water rescues, car extrication, the Boston Firefighting Academy, and first aid. The annual program is among several free ones offered by the town,
“We are always amazed at the students’ interest and the dedication put forth by all involved!” Corda says.
This was an absolutely amazing experience for my son. He loved every minute of Fire Camp – his only complaint was that it ended! Maura, Paul, Dana, and the others were fantastic at creating a welcoming, inclusive, educational, and totally fun environment. My son has special needs, and I worried about whether the camp would be right for him and whether the staff would be open to his differences, but these worries were baseless. From the first, Maura expressed total comfort at having a child with differences, and everyone else was amazing about including him as well. This is such a gift our town offers, and I feel so blessed to live in Wellesley!! Big thank you to Maura from Wellesley Youth Commission and to Firefighters Paul and Dana – Jamie loved getting to know all of you!!!
