In the wake of the deadly, devastating gas explosions in Merrimack Valley, the Wellesley Fire Department has shared the following:
Call 911 if you smell gas in your home, on your street or anywhere in the area. The Fire Department has equipment to investigate any leaks and fire officials will notify National Grid of threatening leaks (classified as Level 1) directly from the scene and remain until the issue is resolved. The town and National Grid have identified more than 200 ongoing, non-threatening leaks (classified as Level 2 or below) in Wellesley due to aging infrastructure.
Sustainable Wellesley, the Selectmen, Health Department, the Natural Resources Commission and others in Wellesley have been pushing to speed repairs of gas pipes.
