It’s Red Kettle time again, when traditionally over 200 Wellesley volunteers ring The Salvation Army bell for an hour-long shift in front of Roche Bros. in Linden Square. Last year this one Red Kettle raised over $30,000.
Because there is no national fund raising in The Salvation Army, funds raised in each community serve the people in that community.
Christmas services include toys for needy children, food for the family, clothing, and small practical gifts for shut-ins. Throughout the year that same local Salvation Army provides programs to aid the poor and needy such as food, emergency and transitional shelter, job training, financial assistance, day care and after school care, youth recreation and development programs.
Want to help out? Sign up online for a shift. Shifts start December 1 and there are always many familiar faces (or as we call them, “celebrities”) seen ringing the Salvation Army bells. You might see firefighters, members of the police department, Wellesley High School Key Club members, or families teaching their kids the value of giving back.

For some sensitive ears, that constant bell ringing is extremely irritating.
Maybe we should dole out ear plugs for an additional donation…
I would put a buck in the bucket if they promised to stop ringing the bell for a full minute.
