Wellesley College told us back in August, when we wrote about complaints regarding inconsiderate dog owners on the path around Lake Waban, that it planned to post new signs on its property to boost awareness about local leash laws.
Those signs are now up, and they include wording from bylaws revised at Wellesley Town Meeting earlier this year.
Consider yourselves warned…
As nice as it is to have these signs up (I was never sure whether the leash law applied on Wellesley college property so now at least it’s crystal clear), they’ve really done nothing to change the problem. There’s one guy in particular whom I’ve seen several times with his two black and white collies, always off leash, and there have been times when I was afraid I would be injured by his dog trying to play with my dog—owner nowhere in sight. And then there was the time that, as I tried to run past, his dog lifted a leg and urinated ON THE SIGN. He was actually there chasing after the dog that time. I said something to him about how his dog should be on a leash, and he was super rude in response. The entitlement of all these off leash dog owners is insane. 😤 I’ve got tons of other horror stories and yet I still run around lake Waban with my (on leash) dog! I would love it if Wellesley enforced the law they’ve clearly already spent resources on. Having another place where dogs are allowed besides ones private property would also help.
