Wellesley Symphony performs opera & Tchaikovsky’s 5th on Nov. 18

On Sunday, November 18th at 3 PM the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra will perform An Afternoon at the Opera. Baritone John Castillo will join Maestro Max Hobart and the orchestra for famous arias from Mozart, Leoncavallo, and Gounod; the orchestra will also perform Rossini’s overture La Scala di Seta and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. Baritone John Castillo

Castillo trained at the Perkins School and New England Conservatory. In 2004, he sang the National Anthem on Opening Day at Fenway Park, and in 2010 he won the American Idol experience at Disney World. Recently he performed with the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Max Hobart, singing arias by Mozart, Menotti, Rossini and Bizet. He has performed duets with singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant and Livingston Taylor, and has been featured several times as a soloist for the Boston Revels.

The concert is at MassBay Community College, 50 Oakland Street, Wellesley at 3 PM. Tickets for the concerts are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students, and free for children 12 and under and may be purchased at Wellesley Books, Andrews Pharmacy on Weston Road, online, at the door and at PO Box 81860, Wellesley Hills, MA, 02481. There is plenty of free parking at the college.
