The Wellesley Department of Public Works has installed a pedestrian-controlled signal at the Cottage Street crosswalk on the Brook Path. The crosswalk on its own doesn’t always slow down motorists using the popular cut-through. It’s worth a shot…
More than you really want to know about Wellesley, Mass.
People are driving too fast everywhere. It’s more dangerous these days to be a pedestrian. Even when I’m in a crosswalk and have the walk signal, people run the light.

This needs to happen on State St at path crossing. The road curves limiting sight dist, it is adjacent the new “stadium” and down the road from Whole Foods & high school. It probably has the highest number of users of any section of the path.Should have been HIGHEST priority.
Busy Clifford intersctn , school kids & morning solar glare makes it even more dangerous. Also, I know DPW doesn’t like motion activated lights b/c bad experience at golf course, but if not installed here, higher activation buttons for cyclists should be included. Run w this.
Thanks Issac, I know discussion has taken place about State Street, will see if we can get an update about where changes might stand on that. TSR
If you want to watch vehicle calisthenics, place yourself at the wacky 4-way, broken-spoke intersection of Hunnewell, Cedar, McLean and Hasting streets at 8 AM on a weekday morning. Although wired for a light, none exists, and residents play a daily, dangerous game of chicken trying to get onto Cedar or over to Fiske School on Hasting. No right turn onto McLean or Cedar but the legal lefts are scary too!
No one has died yet, though, so why fix it?!
Thanks for your insights, Anne. We haven’t had the displeasure of going through there much at peak times, but have found it scary even on off hours, when drivers are perhaps less aware of possible dangers. TSR
