
From Wellesley Public School Superintendent David Lussier:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Doreen Ward as the METCO Director for the Wellesley Public Schools. Ms. Ward has been employed as the METCO Director for Melrose Public Schools for the past twenty- one years. In this role, she managed a $650,000 budget, oversaw transportation services, tutorial services, and all aspects of the METCO program. She supported and directed students in planning for college and post- secondary programs. Prior to her work with Melrose Public Schools, Ms. Ward was a guidance counselor with METCO, Inc. In this role, she provided counseling and advocacy for students and parents. She conducted workshops to address the academic and social concerns of minority students in urban and suburban settings.
Ms. Ward has a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and School Administration from American International College. She is a licensed principal in grades 5-12.
Ms. Ward was selected as the METCO Director from a pool of forty-one applicants.
I want to thank all of the students, staff, and community members who participated throughout the selection process. Your input was essential in supporting a final decision on behalf of our Wellesley Public Schools and METCO community. [He also thanked the interview team.]
