The Babson Globe, Wellesley’s answer to other quirky roadside attractions like Bangor’s Paul Bunyan statue, has begun its journey to its new home on campus.
Babson College this past week moved the mechanical base for the 25-ton globe to what will be its new permanent home at Centennial Park, a new campus centerpiece designed to open in this spring to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary.

The base itself weighs 22.5 tons and is 20 feet in diameter, with a shaft that stands about 15 feet high.
The Globe has been hanging out in a parking lot on campus since March. Hopefully, it will soon be up and spinning, something it hasn’t done since the 1990s.
