Wellesley High School Principal Jamie Chisum and team have begun the challenging task of choosing an assistant principal to replace Lynne Novogroski, who will retire in June after working in the school system for 49 years.
Nearly 70 people applied for the job, and that list has been whittled down to 4 following interviews and discussion involving teachers, parents, counselors, students and administrators.
Here are the finalists, with the dates and schedules listed below for when they will run the gauntlet at Wellesley High (the community is invited to participate):
*Jodi Cohen — A Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Marine Biology at Newton North High School for the past twenty years. Additionally, she is the Chair of Newton North’s Chemical Health Committee and Advisory to their Black Leadership Advisory Council. She says she is passionate about both these roles. Finalist date: Tuesday March 5
*Ann Dever-Keegan — Current Assistant Headmaster at Dover Sherborn High School. Previous to that she was the Dean of Students at Norwood High School and began her career as a Health and Wellness Teacher. At DS she oversees MCAS, the master schedule, mid years and final exam weeks. She talks about how much she enjoys collaborating with her staff. Finalist Date: To be determined
Update (2/26/19): Kelton has withdrawn herself from consideration.
*Jillian Kelton — Since 2014, she has been the Director of Student Services at TechBoston Academy. She was previously a guidance counselor. In this role she is the chief administrator of the 9th grade, and talks about how she uses a whole child focus to supervise student behavior on a regular basis. She is also in charge of scheduling and has consulted around the city of Boston at other schools in this work. Finalist Date: Wednesday, Feb. 27
*Sarah Redbord – Has been the Vice Principal at Framingham high school since 2004. Prior to that she was a high school math teacher for 8 years. In her current role she makes use of her statistics background to analyze data to help the school serve students from a wide range of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. She says she is particularly interested in finding the reasons why some students struggle to find success. Finalist Date: Monday March 4
