Wellesley Police Arrest and Incident Log 2/4/19 to 2/10/19

On February 4, 2019 at 11:41 a.m. Officer Kane spoke with a female party regarding a stolen license plate. The reporting party stated she was not sure when the vehicle’s front license plate was taken. There are no suspects.
On February 5, 2019 at 9:34 a.m. Officer Cunningham was at the Wellesley Square Commuter Rail Station attempting to assist over 300 passengers board the train for the Patriots Super Bowl Rally in Boston. Officer Cunningham noticed a group of youths gathered around a barrel and noticed that one of the youths had beer. He spoke with the youth and asked him for identification. The youth had a fraudulent ID from the State of Connecticut in his wallet which was seized. His parents were contacted to pick him up and Officer Cunningham gave the youth’s father two cans of beer that had not been opened. The youth will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for possessing a forged registry of motor vehicle’s document and possession of alcoholic beverage by an underage person.
On February 5, 2019 Officer Rosenberg was informed by a school administrator at the high school that a teacher had observed a student vaping in the bathroom and believed the vape pen contained Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The teacher seized the vape pen and turned it over to the school administrator. A field test of the contents of the vape pen determined that it did contain THC. Officer Rosenberg relayed this information to the school administrator and the school will address the incident.
On February 5, 2019 at 5:12 p.m. Officer Griffin was assisting a disabled motor vehicle on Worcester Street when he was advised that there were two vehicles involved in a road rage incident that had been called in by a witness. The Emergency Communications Center relayed that those vehicles were traveling westbound on Worcester Street. The witness saw Officer Griffin and pulled over to tell him that the vehicles were traveling behind her. Officer Griffin directed the operator of a black Ford sedan to pull over. He spoke with the operator who admitted he had been involved in a road rage incident and kicked the tire of the other operator’s vehicle. Officer Rosenberg had stopped the other vehicle on Worcester Street by Westminister Circle. That other operator stated that the 1st operator kicked the front bumper of his vehicle causing damage to the license plate and plate holder. Officer Griffin asked that the operator of the 2nd motor vehicle come to the police station to speak with him and allow him to inspect the damage to the vehicle. His version of the events differed from the 1st operator. Officer Griffin spoke with the witness who stated both operators were driving aggressively and erratically, but that the 1st operator had cut off the 2nd operator’s vehicle, exited his vehicle and kicked the front bumper of the vehicle and yelled at him. The 1st operator will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for Malicious Damage of Property.

On February 7, 2019 at 4:06 p.m. Officer J. Popovski was dispatched to the area of Worcester Street and Roberts Road for a struck dog. The motorist stopped and spoke with Officer Popovski. The motorist stated that a small white dog ran from the eastbound side of Worcester Street onto the Westbound side of Worcester Street. While waiting for Officer Popovski to arrive the owner of the dog came and took the dog from the scene. The motorist did not know who the owner of the dog was. Officer Popovski forwarded the information to ACO Webb.
On February 7, 2019 at 4:40 p.m. Officer Fritts spoke with a female party at the police station who had been the victim of a phone scam the previous day. The reporting party stated while at work she received a phone call from someone who stated his name was Officer Roy, he told her that her personal information had been compromised and she was suspected of money laundering. The male party advised her someone from the Framingham Police Department would be calling her to assist her in protecting her assets so they would not be frozen during the investigation. The female party followed the caller’s directions, left work, withdrew $10,500 from her bank account and drove to several locations to make deposits to bitcoin machines. She had been provided with the locations of the machines and deposit codes by the caller. The reporting party later realized this was likely a scam and reported it. Officer Fritts is investigating.
On February 8, 2019 at 11:30 p.m. Officer Fritts was dispatched to a residence for a female party who had consumed alcohol and was unconscious. The parent of the female party had arrived and she was transported to the hospital for treatment. Officer Fritts spoke with the
homeowner and the female party who had invited her friends over. The youths had procured alcohol by contacting a male party through social media. The male party purchased the alcohol for them and they met him to pick it up several days prior to the incident. Officer Fritts obtained the social media account information and will work with the detectives to identify the individual who purchased the alcohol. The incident is under investigation.
On January 28, 2019 at 8:16 p.m. Officer Griffin responded to a hit and run motor vehicle accident on Grove Street at Benvenue Street. One of the vehicle’s involved in the crash had fled the scene of the accident. The other vehicle had sustained significant damage to the left side and front end of the vehicle and after speaking with their insurance company was notified that the vehicle was a total loss. The operator of that vehicle stated the other vehicle drove onto Grove Street from Benvenue Street. There was a stop sign on Benvenue Street and the traffic on Grove Street has the right of way. Officer Griffin investigated the accident and was able to identify the other vehicle involved in the crash. The operator of the vehicle will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for Leaving the Scene of a Crash after Causing Property Damage, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Yield at an Intersection and Failure to Stop.
On February 9, 2019 at 12:01 p.m. Officer Kane spoke with a male party from a business on Worcester Street about a suspicious letter that was received from a former employee that had been terminated several months prior. The male party indicated that the former employee may be suffering from mental illness and while there was no threat contained in the letter received they were concerned about the former employee. They will contact the former employee on February 11th to try to determine what the letter means and why it was sent. They only wished to notify the police department in case the incident escalated or continued.
On February 9, 2019 at 11:05 p.m. Officer D. Popovski was dispatched to a call for a youth that had left his residence without permission. Officer Dixon located the youth on Cedar Street and he indicated that he had a disagreement with his mother and wanted to stay at a friend’s house for the evening. The youth was transported back to his residence.
