Patriot’s Day in Wellesley — what’s open and closed

Boston Marathon, Wellesley 2017Patriots’ Day falls on Monday, April 15, and is a Massachusetts State holiday honoring the memory and meaning of the first battle of the American Revolution, fought near Boston in the villages of Menotomy (now Arlington), Lexington, and Concord on April 19, 1775.

Here in Wellesley, we have the Patriots’ Day honor of hosting runners of the 123rd Boston Marathon as they sprint through the Wellesley Square half-way point of the 26.2 mile race on their way to the Boylston Street finish line in Boston.

Great Wellesley vantage points: the Wellesley College scream tunnel area; Wellesley Square in the Village Church area at 2 Central Street; Hunnewell Field area near the tennis courts.

Information about United States Postal Service blue mailboxes

US Postal Service in the interest of safety and security has sealed all blue collection mailboxes along the route of the Boston Marathon.

The mailboxes were pinned shut at the time of the last collection of mail on Friday, April 12, and will be reopened on Wednesday, April 17, according to the postal service.

The following Wellesley box locations will be unavailable during the timeframe: 1, 8, 21 and 40 Grove St.; 35, 70 and 106 Central St.; 1, 31, 40, 124, 284, 336, 337, 366, 372, 386, 446, 485, 540, 573, 628 and 666 Washington St.; and 431 Worcester St.
