Volunteers from the Wellesley American Legion, Wellesley Police Department, Wellesley Fire Department, Scouting troops, Wellesley Youth Hockey and other groups this week joined Town Graves and Ceremonial Officer Joe Oliveri to mark or redress veterans’ graves with a flag or medallion at Woodlawn Cemetery. Pete Jones, Wellesley American Legion Post 72 Vice Commander, says more than 800 flags and service medallions were replaced.
This event is part of many activities in May to honor all current and departed Wellesley veterans for their service. Other upcoming events include the 51st annual Wellesley Veterans’ Parade on Sunday, May 19 and the Wellesley Memorial Day Observances on Thursday, May 30.
