Cyclist struck by car on Linden Street in Wellesley

Accident scene on Linden Street (photo via KM)

A scary scene unfolded during rush hour on Linden Street near Weston Road on Wednesday when a cyclist was struck by a car. Wellesley emergency personnel arrived quickly (I happened to see a police car heading toward the scene, and an ambulance going away from it on my way to an event).

An initial report from Wellesley Police described the cyclist as only sustaining minor cuts. A Swellesley reader has commented that the cyclist may have had more severe injuries than that, but the police do not follow up or release additional info in these cases unless they are life threatening (and hospitals won’t release such info for privacy reasons). We’ve not been able to confirm the cyclist’s condition directly.

The motorist involved in the incident stopped and was talking to police about it.

Here’s hoping for a speedy recovering for the cyclist.

That intersection is a nightmare for cars, bikes and pedestrians. Bikes have to ride for a bit on road. It’s really dangerous. Bike death occurred there few years go. Should be full stop light, not blinking.

You should probably file up on your facts. I understand the bicyclist had a broken pelvis and a punctured lung..

Thanks Dennis. The police only give a preliminary report, but generally don’t pursue additional info unless it’s a life-threatening situation. Privacy issues then kick in, so hospitals won’t release additional info. So unless the cyclist or family happens to reach out to us, we have limited access to more details on this…we’ll update our post though in light of this.

The car windshield was smashed open like a bullet pierced it
    Pray for the cyclist.
This short part of Linden between Crest and Weston is a dangerous cut thru to railroad station.
Bikers often charge along sidewalk which endangers walkers then cut over double line Linden at top speed cars also speed
    I see it every night
We have tried toget a 20 MPH posted and painted on this section of Linden before.
    Maybe now?

I saw the aftermath of bike/car accident on Linden.
    1. Car’s windshield shattered with a 4 inch hole on driver’s side, glass all over; the bike in unrecognizable pieces. If biker makes it it’s a miracle.
    2. What we see every night: this short stretch of Linden (Crest-Weston) is a drag strip, bikers & drivers racing to/from RR station plus those who want to avoid Central traffic heading for Rte 9.
    3. They zoom down the sidewalks with -0- regard for walkers–they don’t have bells and don’t even call out or slow down, then bikers cross the double-lane Linden full speed.
How many more accidents like this have to happen?
    4. A few years back, we residents twice tried a postcard campaign and presented it to Selectmen, for speed reduction & get it painted on the street without success.
    5. We need to license bicyclists as they used to, renewed every year at the police station. Presently, they are accountable to no one.
    6. We have cameras in place at stop lights, why not use them? Drivers/biekrs go through lights every morning.
    6. Not just a red light, but a police presence is needed during am/pm rush hours at Crest/Linden.
