The Wellesley Middle School track team this past weekend brought home 9 medals from the Massachusetts Middle School Track and Field State Championship Meet in Clinton.

Among the highlights:
*First place for 8th grader Abby Lothian in the 100-meter dash
*Third place for 7th grader Maiwen Kamdje in the high jump
*Third place for Lily Jin in the 800-meter run.
Other individual medalists included Lauren Caughey (8th place in the 800 meter) and Audrey Fitzpatrick (7th place in the mile).
The girls’ 4×100 relay team placed 5th with runners Abby Lothian, Ellie Bedard, Maiwen Kamdje and Tamai Withers. The girls’ 4×400 relay team placed 8th with Grace Wheelan, Lauren Caughey, Elizabeth Lahive and Lily Jin. The girls’ 4×800 team placed 6th with runners Zoe Maggioni, Delaney Dyer, Kayo Sakurai and Grace Wheelan.
The boys’ 4×800 relay team placed 7th with runners Dylan Stern, Maxwell Lin, Howard Xu and Tyler Dravenstott.
Medals were awarded at the meet to athletes and teams who placed up to 8th place. Wellesley competed as a Division 1School. The WMS team is coached by Patty McCarthy, Katie Erikson and Mark Bugden.
The performances of the WMS students bodes well for the already strong Wellesley High track & field and cross country teams.
