“I Care a Lot” movie filming in Wellesley, week 2

July 15, 2019 by Deborah Brown 1 Comment

It’s “action” again in Wellesley this week as crews and talent shoot scenes for a film called I Care a Lot starring Rosamund Pike of Sundance TV’s State of the Union and Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones. The movie-making magic today is taking place at the 490 Washington Street office of orthodontist Dr. Jeff Lowenstein. Crews have set up in front of the office for exterior shots, and inside as well. Lowenstein posted a few pics on Facebook of his transformed office saying, “Look how easy it is to turn an orthodontic office into a geriatric physician’s office…”

Here’s what a geriatric doctor’s office looks like, a la Hollywood. As a member of the Sandwich Generation, I’ve been in such offices aplenty, and would say that this is an accurate depiction.

I stopped by the set to gawk from the sidewalk, and Wellesley police and a private security detail were on hand. I asked security if any of the stars were in Wellesley, and I got the same answer I always get from the notoriously tight-lipped protectors: “I have no idea.”

I have it from a reliable source, however, that Rosamund Pike will be at the Washington Street set location today. I didn’t happen to catch a glimpse of the actor, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the 2014 psychological thriller, Gone Girl, but if any sharp-eyed reader does, keep me posted.

Dr. Karen Amos (aka “I Care A Lot” star Rosamund Pike) has hung out her shingle in Wellesley. Sorry, she’s completely booked today and not taking anymore appointments. Ever.

This isn’t the first time Lowenstein’s office has been visited by fame. He says, “Since I’m an orthodontist the treatment area is wide open so it can accommodate all the lighting and cameras. Most dental offices are small and too tight for the crew. I was an Assistant to the Producer at WCVB-TV before I went to dental school and did many location shoots for their medical programming unit.” Lowenstein even has an Emmy award for his work on the team that created The Rheumatoid Factor and The Body Works, a children’s medical series. How cool is that?

Hollywood crews set up in front of 490 Washington Street for exterior shots of the upcoming feature film, “I Care A Lot”, starring Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage.

Just around the corner on Morton Street were some pretty cool props parked curbside — an old-timey taxicab, and a police vehicle with the fictitious town of Brydon emblazoned on the driver’s side door. Some fancy porta-potties have been set up in the parking lot adjacent to 490 Washington Street. The back parking lot of St. Paul’s Church also has been pressed into service.

There is no such town as Brydon, and cool yellow taxicabs like the one parked on Morton Street are few and far between these days. Neither vehicle had real license plates, so it seems likely that they’re props for the movie.

Since I Care a Lot crews and talent have been in Wellesley, so far there’s been Hollywood-type commotion along the Charles River walking path at Wellesley Office Park and in Wellesley Square at the old Talbots space and other nearby storefronts.

The summary for I Care a Lot on IMDB reads: “A legal guardian discovers that her seemingly perfect client is not who they appear to be.”

We don’t typically have such fancy port-a-potties in these parts.
