Wellesley Police log: Counterfeit clothes for sale near country club; employees spat over tips; texting while driving leads to arrest

Arrests

On November 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Officers Misho and Shore were conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street when they observed a Chevrolet pick-up and conducted a query of the vehicle’s registration to confirm the status of the registration.  The query showed that the registration was revoked due to lack of insurance.  Officers Misho and Shore stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, and requested his license and the vehicle registration.  He provided Officer Misho with his license.  A query of his information showed there were 3 warrants for his arrest issued by Brockton District Court for Uttering a False Check, Larceny by Check Over $1,200 and Forgery of a Check, Roxbury District Court for Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle and West Roxbury District Court for Uttering a False Check, Larceny by Check Over $1,200 and Forgery of a Check.  The driver was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and transported to Dedham District Court.

On November 8, 2019 at 9:21 a.m. Officer Mankavech was traveling on Worcester Street when he observed a Nissan sedan traveling east.  He observed the male operator texting while driving his vehicle.  He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, and requested his license and registration.  A query of his information showed there was an active default warrant issued by Taunton District Court.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and transported to Dedham District Court.

On November 9, 2019 at 11:57 a.m. Officer Mankvech was traveling behind a Nissan pick-up truck when he noticed that the brake lights were not functioning properly.  He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, and asked for his license and registration.  He queried his information and learned that his license was suspended.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on $100 bail.

On November 10, 2019 at 10:57 a.m. Officer Mankavech was conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street when he observed a Chevrolet sedan pass his location and conducted a random query of the registration.  The query showed that the vehicle did not have a valid inspection sticker.  Officer Mankavech stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator,  for his license and registration.  He stated he did not have his wallet with him.  Officer Mankavech asked for his name and date of birth.  A query of that information showed that his license was suspended.  He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.

Incidents

On November 4, 2019 at 10:05 a.m. Officer Hughes spoke with a resident from Grove Street regarding computer fraud.  The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.

On November 5, 2019 at 11:21 a.m. Officer J. Popovski spoke with a male reporting party who stated a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings were stolen from his residence in September.  The reporting party had several contractors in his residence in September.  The earrings were

valued at $1,300 and the reporting party has submitted a claim with his insurance company.

On November 5, 2019 at 11:23 a.m. Officer Cunningham was dispatched to the area of the Wellesley Country Club for a male party who was selling counterfeit clothing from his vehicle.   The male reporting party stated that the male approached him and stated that he was returning to Italy and he had items he wanted to sell to avoid having to pay a customs tax on them to bring them back to Italy with him.  The male said he would sell him a leather jacket for half price $700.  The reporting party told him he only had $80 and he accepted that and left the area.  The male party realized the jacket was a counterfeit and contacted the police department.  Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the vehicle.

On November 6, 2019 at 12:35 p.m. Officer Harris spoke with a female reporting party who stated she had been notified by her bank that a check was cashed against her account was flagged as suspicious.  The check was mailed at the Grove Street post office at the end of October.  It was made out to a utility company and had been altered and cashed by someone in Jamaica Plain for $8,000.  The incident is under investigation.

On November 8, 2019 at 1:42 p.m. Officer Kane was dispatched to a residence on Hastings Street for a report of a suspicious male party who had entered the apartment building.  The female reporting party stated when she entered the building a male party entered after she did and engaged her in conversation.  He stated that his cousin lived in the building but he wasn’t sure which apartment.  The male party eventually left the building.  Officer Kane was unable to locate a male party in the area.

On November 8, 2019 at 11:34 p.m. Officer Fritts was dispatched to a restaurant on Central Street for a report of two employees having a disagreement regarding gratuities.  The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.

On November 9, 2019 at 7:53 a.m. Officer Rosenberg spoke with a male reporting party from the Town of Wellesley Park and Tree Department regarding vandalism to the Sprague playing fields.  It appears overnight someone drove a vehicle onto the fields damaging them.  There are no suspects at this time.

On November 10, 2019 at 10:00 p.m. Officer DeBernardi spoke with a male and female reporting party who stated their iPhone was stolen at a restaurant in Wellesley in the Lower Falls area after it was inadvertently left on the table when they left the restaurant.  The reporting parties stated they returned to the restaurant approximately 5-10 minutes after they realized the phone was left behind and the employees stated that they did not find the phone.  The incident is under investigation.
