Wellesley Police log for the week of Nov. 11-16
Arrests
On November 11, 2019 at 12:45 a.m. Officer Gerard was dispatched to a single car motor vehicle crash on Worcester Street east near the Wellesley Sports Complex. Upon arrival he observed a Subaru Forester that had struck a utility pole and had significant front end damage. Officer Gerard spoke with a male party, who was standing near the front of the car and stated he had been driving the car when the crash occurred. Officer Gerard detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the driver, noticed he appeared drowsy and sluggish and his speech was mumbled and slurred. He agreed to take some reasonable tests of balance and coordination to determine if he was able to safely operate a motor vehicle. He was unable to successfully pass these tests. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on $500 bail.
On November 12, 2019 at 11:15 a.m. Officer Misho was dispatched to assist Sgt. Gallagher with a motor vehicle stop he had made of a Dodge sedan for a possible warrant. It was confirmed that the driver, had an active warrant issued by Westborough District Court for Shoplifting over $250. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and transported to Dedham District Court.
Incidents
On November 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Officer Mankavech spoke with a female reporting party about damage to her fence. She reported that a section of the wooden fence was charred and appeared it had caught fire at some point. Officer Mankavech noticed that the fence was old and landscapers had recently applied chemicals to the lawn. The reporting party stated she was planning on replacing the fence due to its age.
On November 11, 2019 at 1:39 p.m. Officer J. Popovski spoke with a male reporting party from a business in Wellesley who stated upon reviewing the business’ checking account statement he noticed discrepancies. There were 5 fraudulent checks passed on the account totaling over $32,000. These checks were cashed by individuals in Roxbury, MA, Atlanta, GA, Mattapan, MA and Boston, MA. The original checks had been placed in a mailbox on Washington Street in the Lower Falls area. Officer Popovski is investigating.
On November 13, 2019 at 8:49 a.m. Officer J. Popovski spoke with a male reporting party who stated that his front license plate was possibly stolen in Rhode Island. The license plate number will be entered as lost/stolen. There are no suspects at this time.

On November 11, 2019 at 11:20 p.m. Officer Harvey was conducting security checks of the Centennial Park area and observed two vehicles parked in the parking lot. The park is closed from dusk to dawn. There were two occupants in one of the vehicles and Officer Harvey detected an odor of marijuana. The driver was able to successfully complete some
reasonable tests of balance and coordination to determine if she was able to safely operate a motor vehicle. She was issued a town by law violation for possessing an open container of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
On November 14, 2019 at 9:20 a.m. Officer Gerard spoke to a male reporting party regarding a contractor doing work on his property without his permission. The reporting party stated he had received a notice from the contractor approximately two months prior but did not respond. Officer Gerard spoke with the Town of Wellesley Engineer’s Office and was advised the area where the work is being done is within the town’s right of way and the state’s right of way. The reporting party was provided the Town Engineer’s contact information and the contact information for the contractor.
On November 14, 2018 at 11:40 a.m. Officer Harris spoke with a resident about a town by-law violation. There were unregistered vehicles on the property. The resident was provided with a copy of the by-law that indicates that the vehicles need to be garaged or properly registered and inspected. They were advised that they have 30 days to comply with the by-law.
On November 14, 2019 at 1:14 p.m. Officer Cunningham spoke with a female reporting party regarding missing or stolen jewelry. She stated an 18 karat gold and diamond bracelet and set of gold and diamond earrings were on her dresser and were taken sometime between mid-April and mid-June. She stated there had been several people in her residence during that time. She filed an insurance claim and was advised she needed to file a police report. There are no suspects.
On November 14, 2019 at 7:11 p.m. Officer DiCenso spoke with a female reporting party who stated she received a phone call from a female party who stated she was calling from a shipping company and alleged that the female party had shipped an illegal package to Shanghai that was identified at the DHL location in Peabody, MA. The reporting party told the caller that she had not shipped any packages. The caller requested some personal identifying information to confirm. The reporting party provided some personal information but eventually disconnected the phone. The caller phoned another 4 times after she disconnected the call. She was advised not to answer any additional calls from the caller.
On November 15, 2019 at 4:48 p.m. Officer Poirier took a report for a stolen bicycle at the Wellesley Middle School. The report is incomplete at this time and no further information is available.
On November 16, 2019 at 4:40 p.m. Officer Dixon spoke with a female reporting party regarding a lost/stolen license plate that was last seen on her vehicle on November 15th while it was parked in her driveway overnight on Cedar Street. The license plate was entered as lost or stolen. There are no suspects at this time.
On November 16, 2019 at 5:42 p.m. Officer Fritts spoke with a male reporting party who stated he had responded to an ad on Craigslist for 4 Boston Bruins tickets, paid $200 and never received the tickets. The reporting party had used Zelle to pay for the tickets. He contacted his bank and was advised that they cannot guarantee purchases paid for with Zelle but that he could try the fraud department on Monday. Officer Fritts is investigating.
On November 16, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Officer Dixon spoke with a resident about suspicious activity that occurred about 20 minutes prior. The reporting party stated that an unknown individual had walked onto her property, down her driveway and into the back yard and appeared to be looking around the back yard. The individual then abruptly left and got into the passenger side of a small sedan that left the area. She stated about one-month prior a similar thing occurred while her son was home. Officer Dixon is investigating.
