The Wellesley Town Band welcomes its new conductor and music director, Pam Choinski, as it begins its second decade. She is an experienced band teacher, conductor, and clarinetist, and a true band enthusiast.
Choinski is the band director at Abby Kelley Foster High School in Worcester, and is the assistant director of the Windham Community Band. She also teaches clarinet and recorder at the Joy of Music Program in Worcester. She earned a Master of Arts in Instrumental Conducting, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire. In 2019, Choinski received the Mike Moss Conducting Study Grant from the College Band Directors National Association. She has participated in numerous conducting workshops, including the 2019 Frederick Fennell Memorial Conducting Masterclass at the Eastman School of Music.
“I am very excited to be joining this community and working with the members of the Wellesley Town Band,” Choiniski said. “Community bands bring so many people together through music—those who perform as well as the audience. As a high school band director, my goal is always for my students to continue to enjoy and appreciate music throughout their lives, and bands like these are such an important way to make that possible. Leading a community band has been a goal of mine for a long time, and I am ready to hit the ground running.”
