Wellesley Rec basketball league establishes ‘Buck Cup’ to honor longtime ref & organizer

Wellesley Rec’s high school basketball league this weekend honored John “Buck” Buckley for his many contributions over the years by introducing the “Buck Cup” as an award to be presented to the winner of the boys’ league.

Steve Hollingsworth, commissioner of Rec’s high school league, says the boys’ Sunday league started because of Buckley. He has not only worked the games, but organized refs for them and helped to run the league, Hollingsworth said.

“We told John Buckley that the Boys high school Sunday Rec league started 14 years ago (because of him) will now present the winner with the ‘Buck Cup’ named in his honor to thank him for his contributions and support of Wellesley hoops for over 47 years!” Hollingsworth said.

The first “Buck Cup” will be presented at the end of this season, which goes into March.
