From The Wellesley Parents of the Performing Arts:
The Wellesley Parents of the Performing Arts (POPS) would like to congratulate the Wellesley Middle School 6th Grade chorus under the direction of Lauren Connors for a significant vocal accomplishment this past weekend.
Earlier this year, the entire 130 student chorus undertook learning the “ragazzi” part of Carl Orff’s famed “Carmina Burana.” Best known for its powerful “O Fortuna!” movement, this piece is complicated and vocally-taxing. All young chorus members learned the secular Medieval poetry lyrics as preparation for select chorus auditions.
Ultimately, 30 WMS 6th graders were selected to participate in a sold-out concert, which took place at the Fine Arts Center at Regis College on March 9. The WMS Select 6th Grade chorus performed in a thrilling collaboration with the Commonwealth Chorale and Rivers Symphony Orchestra. They enjoyed the inspirational experience of singing alongside seasoned professional soloists Alexandra Henderson (soprano), Morgan Mastrangelo (tenor) and Nicholas Ottersberg Enriquez (baritone).
“We had two rehearsals with the adult ensembles and at our second rehearsal, the 6th grade singers first heard the soloists,”recalled WMS Choral Director Connors. “They were picking their jaws up off the floor and for good reason. These singers are incredible vocal models for my students and I know they’ll remember this experience for life. There is nothing like singing with a full symphonic orchestra!”
We are so very proud of Ms. Connors and the WMS 6th Grade Chorus.
