Wellesley’s Kathryn Fischmann, a sophomore at Savannah College of Art and Design, earlier this month attended the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., representing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The 2023 Wellesley High School graduate was among 50-plus young women representing their state or territory. Each delegate was selected based on an application, including their merit, academics, achievements and honors, extracurriculars, and interest in civics as well as Japanese culture and international relations. A Cherry Blossom Queen was crowned.

The Cherry Blossom Program, in its 77th year, takes place during the final week of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Delegates met with politicians, ambassadors, and other leaders, and took part in the festival parade.

They visited The Library of Congress, The White House, The Japanese Embassy, The Lithuanian and Taiwanese Embassies, The General Federation of Women’s Clubs Washington DC chapter, and more. They were guests of honor at a 600+ attended reception at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence and participated in a traditional tea ceremony at the Japanese Embassy.
