Mass Pike closures & MBTA schedule changes for May 30-June 2; No Wellesley Farms service

Local drivers and commuters should expect Mass Pike lane closures and changes to MBTA schedules from May 30 to June 2 due to major work on the MassDOT Newton-Weston Bridge Replacement project.

I-90/Mass Pike both eastbound and westbound will be reduced to one lane in each direction in Newton and Weston beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 30 through 5:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2.

MassDOT crews will be continuing work on the bridge carrying I-90 over I-95 and the Charles River, and preparing to replace the bridge carrying I-90 over the MBTA.

This work will also disrupt MBTA schedules. On Friday, May 30, shuttle buses will replace nighttime trains on the Framingham Worcester line in both directions between Framingham and Boston. See the shuttle bus schedule on the MBTA website.

On Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, shuttle buses will replace service between Framingham and Worcester. See the shuttle bus and Green Line schedules.

In Wellesley, shuttle buses will be available at the Wellesley Square and Wellesley Hills MBTA stops ONLY. Buses will transport travelers to the Riverside or Kenmore Green Line T stop for continued travel.

Please Note: The Wellesley Farms MBTA stop will be closed and have no shuttle service during the weekend. Signs with this information are posted at all Wellesley MBTA stops.

Regular service is expected to resume on Monday, June 2 in time for peak commuting hours.

Similar closures are planned for a second weekend from June 20 through June 22, 2025.

Visit the MassDOT project website for complete information, or email I-90newton-weston@dot.state.ma.us

Wellesley Farms stairs blocked

A reader shared a photo of Wellesley Farms train station stairs being blocked by caution tape and DPW barriers. We’ve reached out to the MBTA to find out what this is all about and will update this post if we hear back…
