Wellesley resident Grayson Cho, a fifth grader who attends the Meadowbrook School of Weston, was among students recognized by the non-profit Massachusetts Center for the Book for his writing skills. Cho and other awardees were feted at the State House earlier in May.

Cho earned third place by writing a letter to author Kelly Yang about her book New from Here as part of the Letters About Literature program.

Cho read his submission aloud to the audience and received a cash prize. He was among 25 students recognized, along with their families.

Students in grades 4 to 12 are invited to take part in this program. They read a book of their choice, reflect on it, and write a letter to the author explaining the impact this work has had on them.

This year’s competition was judged by Diane Costagliola, director of the Sandwich Public Library; Julia Sullivan, youth services librarian from the Chelmsford Public Library; and YA author and Concord-Carlisle High School library technician Kip Wilson.
