Eastern Massachusetts wraps up the week with classic mid-May warmth, but a more unsettled weather pattern gradually takes hold heading into the weekend. A pair of weak disturbances will bring several rounds of scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm between Friday evening and Saturday night. While no day looks like a total washout, outdoor plans may need to stay flexible—especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. A cold front moves through on Sunday, clearing out the humidity and ushering in a noticeably cooler and drier air mass. Early next week will feel refreshingly springlike, with crisp mornings, comfortable afternoons, and a welcome drop in dew points. Highs in the 80s will give way to 60s, and while clouds may linger at times, several dry and breezy days are expected to kick off the workweek. Overall, the forecast offers a little something for everyone—whether you’re looking forward to summerlike warmth or the return of ideal sleeping weather with the windows open.
Friday, May 16 — Warm and Partly Sunny, PM Shower Risk:
A warm and breezy late-spring day across Eastern Massachusetts. Expect filtered sunshine for much of the day, with highs ranging from 78–82°F inland, slightly cooler near the coast. Humidity remains moderate but noticeable. After 6 p.m., a weak disturbance could spark a few isolated showers or a rumble of thunder, especially across interior sections west and north of Boston. Most communities remain dry. Friday night turns mostly cloudy and mild, with patchy fog possible near the coast and lows around 60–62°F.
Saturday, May 17 (Day 1 of Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend) — Mild, Humid, and Showery at Times:
Clouds and humidity increase, setting the stage for a more unsettled day. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms become more likely in the afternoon and evening, particularly between 3–8 p.m. Highs reach 74–77°F, with a stickier feel than earlier in the week. Winds from the south at 5–10 mph. While most of the day will feature dry intervals, timing could interfere with outdoor activities. Saturday night remains damp and muggy with scattered showers lingering into the overnight hours. Lows hold in the upper 50s to around 60°F.
Sunday, May 18 (Day 2 of Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend)— Breezy and Turning Drier:
A transition day. Early clouds may yield a few stray morning showers, but skies turn sunnier by midday as a cold front moves offshore. Behind it, drier and less humid air begins to arrive. Highs reach the low to mid 70s, with a refreshing west wind at 10–15 mph, gusting to 20 mph at times. The air continues to dry out through the afternoon, setting up a more comfortable evening. Sunday night is clear, breezy, and cool, with lows around 48–52°F.
Monday, May 19 — Sunny, Breezy, and Refreshingly Cool:
A picture-perfect spring day. Wall-to-wall sunshine, low humidity, and seasonably cool temperatures make for ideal conditions. Highs top out in the low to mid 60s, with a northwest breeze at 10–15 mph adding a crisp feel. Skies stay clear into the evening, and Monday night is chilly for May—lows fall into the upper 40s across much of the region.
Tuesday, May 20 — Partly Sunny and Seasonably Cool:
A mix of sun and clouds with continued dry, cool weather. Highs remain in the low 60s, about 5–8°F below normal, with light northerly winds. While the day should remain dry, clouds may begin to increase late as a more unsettled pattern develops midweek. Tuesday night turns mostly cloudy with lows around 45–48°F.
Wednesday, May 21 — Increasing Clouds, Risk of Late Showers:
The day starts off dry with partial sun, but clouds increase in the afternoon. A weak system may bring some late-day showers, with the best chance after 4–5 p.m. Highs rebound slightly into the mid 60s. Winds turn light and variable. The evening may feature scattered light rain or drizzle, especially near the coast. Overnight lows in the low 50s.
Thursday, May 22 — Overcast and Damp at Times:
A cloudy and cooler day with on-and-off light rain or drizzle. Highs range from 62–66°F inland, but may stay in the upper 50s along the coast due to onshore flow. While widespread heavy rain is unlikely, the day may feel gray and damp overall. Thursday night remains mostly cloudy with the chance for continued drizzle and lows near 51–53°F.
Friday, May 23 — Cloudy Start, Brighter Finish?
Forecast confidence is moderate, but early indications suggest the day may start off overcast and damp before gradual clearing develops in the afternoon. If sunshine breaks through, highs could reach 68–70°F. Otherwise, expect cooler readings under persistent cloud cover. A cautiously optimistic start to Memorial Day Weekend, with potential improvement into Saturday. More details to come in the next update.
