Eastern Massachusetts will experience a stretch of unusually chilly, gray, and windswept weather to close out May, as a late-season Nor’easter rolls through southern New England. While rain tapers by Friday morning, scattered showers linger through Saturday under a stubborn upper-level trough. By Sunday, skies begin to brighten, temperatures slowly rebound, and a drier, more seasonable pattern takes hold just in time for Memorial Day. Next week starts with sunshine, crisp mornings, and gradually warming afternoons, though a few damp periods from passing showers remain possible. A week that starts with coastal flooding ends with backyard barbecue potential, offering a little something for everyone this holiday weekend.
Friday, May 23 — Showers Fade, Still Gray and Damp:
Thursday’s storm begins to pull away, with steady rain ending early in the morning. However, clouds, patchy fog, and scattered light showers stick around into the afternoon. A west wind starts to dry things out slowly, but skies remain mostly cloudy and the air still feels cool and raw.
• High: 58–60°F | Wind: W 10–15 mph, gusts to 20 mph
• Friday night: Mostly cloudy and calm, with a lingering chance of showers. Low near 47°F.
Saturday, May 24 — Scattered Showers, Gradual Clearing Late:
Unsettled weather continues as cool air aloft triggers showers, especially from late morning into early evening. Some sun may peek through between rounds of clouds, and the day isn’t a total loss, but conditions remain changeable. Temperatures inch upward but still fall short of normal for this time of year.
• High: 60–62°F | Wind: W 6–10 mph
• Saturday night: Drying out with partial clearing. Lows dip to 46–48°F. A brisk, springlike night.
Sunday, May 25 — Mostly Sunny and Moderating:
High pressure builds in from the west, finally pushing the stubborn trough offshore. Expect a bright, dry day with ample sunshine and a light northwest breeze. Afternoon highs climb into the mid-60s with low humidity and good air quality. Ideal for outdoor walks, errands, or grilling.
• High: 65–67°F | Wind: NW 7–10 mph
• Sunday night: Mostly clear and calm. Cool overnight with lows near 49°F.
Memorial Day, Monday, May 26 — Seasonably Warm and Sunny:
Arguably the best day of the stretch. Mostly sunny skies, a light breeze, and afternoon highs near 70°F make it a decent Memorial Day weatherwise, certainly better than it was looking earlier. The air remains dry and comfortable, with only a slight uptick in evening cloud cover.
• High: 69–71°F | Wind: NE 5–7 mph
• Monday night: Clouds slowly increase overnight. Lows around 52°F.

Tuesday, May 27 — Partly Sunny with a Late Shower Chance:
