The Wellesley Police Department has re-dedicated the memorial in front of the station with the name of Officer Lamars Hughes, who died on Nov. 13, 2023 from injuries suffered in a crash while on duty earlier that year.
The inscription honoring Officer Hughes could be seen on the memorial at the recent Police Department open house during Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend. A ceremony for the officer’s family was held the next day, May 18.
The memorial, first dedicated 20 years ago, now contains the names of four Wellesley officers who have died in the line of duty, and all were honored during the recent ceremony. The other officers were Thomas Shea, Joseph Fitzsimmons, and Stewart Savage.
