A handful of Wellesley students have been announced as winners of $2,500 National Merit Scholarships. They were chosen from among 15,000 finalists across the country for the non-profit organization’s awards.
Recipients were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised their record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT); contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
Awards are funded largely through corporate and foundation underwriters.
