“No Kings” rally planned for Saturday, June 14, in Wellesley
A “No Kings” rally will be held Saturday, June 14, 11am-12:30pm, in front of Town Hall, 525 Washington Street. The peaceful rally is organized by Wellesley neighbors and is supported by the League of Women Voters Wellesley; the Immigration Justice Group of Temple Beth Elohim; UU Wellesley Hills; and Neighbors United Indivisible.
Organizers say the day will be a nationwide event of action and mass mobilization in response to authoritarianism and corruption in Washington, and that protesters will stand up for democracy and the rule of law.
On the same day there will be a massive parade in Washington, DC, with thousands of troops marching, tanks and other military vehicles rolling through the streets, and combat aircraft (some vintage, some state-of-the-art) flying overhead to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Army. The day will also coincide with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
The parade, scheduled to begin at 6:30pm, has been a year in the planning. The Army filed a permit in June 2024 to hold the event, which was originally envisioned on a smaller scale.
