Wellesley Square’s La Toscana’s restaurant shuts down, cites lack of business

June 4, 2025 by Bob Brown

Those stopping by La Toscana’s at 99 Central St. in Wellesley Square will be greeted with exuberant messaging on the front door about the restaurant being “! Open for Dinner!” and offering wine and beer. But those visiting the restaurant’s website will find a much more sobering reality: La Toscana’s has gone out of business.

Chef Serge on the restaurant’s website shares: “Sadly, we will be closing our doors. I want to thank everyone who has dined with us over the years for their patronage. In today’s economy, a business must remain busy in order to survive, and we unfortunately were unable to produce enough revenue to sustain this business.”

La Toscana's

La Toscana’s opened about three years ago, specializing in pizza, smoothies, and more at the space formerly occupied by Upper Crust Pizzeria. The business was opened by the owner of A New Leaf healthy food grocery in Needham.

La Toscana’s last year made changes to become a full-blown Italian restaurant (keeping the pizza) with a full liquor bar.

While La Toscana’s prided itself on its menu items, including bowls and homemade pasta, the restaurant impressed us in the past as well with its outdoor fashion sense.
