Obituary: Cosmo Uttero—WWII veteran who received belated Wellesley High diploma

Cosmo R. Uttero, who left high school at the age of 17 to enlist in the U.S. Army during World War II and received his Wellesley High School diploma during 2021’s graduation ceremony, has passed away in Bradenton, Fla., at the age of 101.

The decorated veteran’s accomplishments included landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day.

Visiting Hours will be held at Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. in Wellesley on Friday, July 18, from 9-10:30am. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11am, at St. Paul’s Church, 502 Washington St., Wellesley. Mr. Uttero will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham, alongside his wife, Erika, with full Military Honors.
