David Charles Sweetser (4/4/1955 – 7/19/2025), beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to all, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, in his home in Wellesley, MA, at age 70. David was born in Chelsea, MA, in 1955 to Charles William and Dorothy Esther (Farrell) Sweetser. David grew up in Andover, MA, graduating from Andover High, Class of 1973, as an active athlete. “Sweets” attended Bowdoin College (Class of 1977) and still considered himself to be an active brother of Alpha Kappa Sigma. David loved all things Bowdoin, but he most cherished his time as a member of the Bowdoin football team (#75). While in college, David met the love of his life, Jayne (Malconian) Sweetser. One night at a fraternity party began a 47-year-long incredible marriage. After meeting Jayne, David attended Babson College and ultimately attained his MBA from Suffolk University.

David and Jayne settled in Wellesley, MA, raising their two daughters, Katie and Kelley. David was a pillar of the community, known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and endearing Boston accent.

David had a long career in commercial real estate, where he was known for his integrity, dedication, and hard work. Even at the age of 70, he still worked a 12-hour day, always in a suit and tie.

He was a proud father to his two daughters and a grandfather to his three grandchildren (with his fourth on the way). Of all his lifelong nicknames and titles, that of “Papa” was his most treasured. David loved his family more than anything.

His true happy place was Kennebunk, ME, where he was known as the “King of the Beach.” He loved nothing more than sitting on his front deck, waving and chatting from his rocking chair to anyone who passed by.

David had the biggest heart, and nothing made him happier than helping others. David was a tireless supporter of the Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (KBIA) and the Tommy McNamara Charitable Foundation. David seemed to have life figured out: work hard, play hard, and love hardest.

David touched an extraordinary number of lives. He had a magnetic personality and lit up every room he entered. No one loved life more than David Sweetser.

David is predeceased by his father, Charles William Sweetser; stepfather, Arthur Morrissey; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Mark Malconian. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jayne, of Wellesley, MA and Kennebunk, ME; his daughter, Katie Sweetser, of Wellesley, MA; his daughter and son in law, Kelley (Sweetser) and Patrick Gill of Norwell, MA; his grandchildren, Pip Sweetser and Conor and Jaynie Gill; his mother, Dorothy Morrissey; his sister Diane Anderson; his brother, Mark Sweetser and sister-in-law, Cyndee Sweetser; his sister-in-law, Ann Malconian; his brother-in-laws, Richard Malconian and Steve Smith, along with many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 30th at 11 a.m. at St. Martha’s Church (30 Portland Road, Kennebunk, ME), followed by a celebration of life at 1 p.m. at Webhannet Golf Club. In the true spirit of David, we ask you to wear casual attire and colors as bright and happy as he made you feel.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s memory to the Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (KBIA) or the Animal Welfare Society of Kennebunk (in honor of his beloved dogs, Salty, KC, George, and Gracie).
