Weather Outlook: August 20 to August 29, 2025
Cooler than normal, low-humidity conditions continue through midweek before temperatures rebound into the weekend. A midweek storm system brings widespread rain, then Hurricane Erin passes well southeast of New England on Friday, producing no direct impacts inland but stirring up rough surf, rip currents, and gusty winds across Cape Cod and the Islands. For most of Eastern Massachusetts, the pattern turns warmer and drier over the weekend. Another front brings a chance of showers late Sunday into Monday, followed by a return to seasonable and pleasant late summer weather midweek.
Wednesday, August 20 – Cool and unsettled with steady rain
Clouds thicken quickly and periods of rain develop by midday. The heaviest showers favor areas near and south of the Mass Pike, but all of Eastern Massachusetts sees at least some rainfall. Temperatures stay in the 60s, making for a damp, raw day. Travel may be slowed by heavier downpours at times.

Thursday, August 21 – Clearing, breezy, and seasonable
Lingering clouds and perhaps a sprinkle in the morning fade as drier air moves in. By afternoon, sunshine breaks through. A northeast breeze makes it feel cooler, but humidity stays low. A refreshing late summer day.

Friday, August 22 – Mostly sunny inland, windy for the Cape and Islands
Hurricane Erin passes far offshore, too distant for direct rain or wind inland. Eastern Massachusetts enjoys a mostly sunny day with seasonable temperatures and a light breeze. Over the Cape and Islands, gusts may reach 40 mph with rough surf and dangerous rip currents.

Saturday, August 23 – Bright, dry, and warmer

Sunday, August 24 – Warm, clouds late, showers at night
Another warm, mostly sunny day to start. Clouds increase late in the afternoon ahead of an approaching front. Showers may develop after sunset. Humidity rises slightly but remains tolerable. Daytime outdoor activities look fine with rain holding off until nighttime.
