MassBay Community College, which has largely shared its possible development plans to date with Wellesley neighbors and town officials, is almost ready to loop in the rest of the public. It has community meetings slated on campus at 50 Oakland St. for Thursday, Sept. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6pm.
MassBay President David Podell and others will be on hand to discuss plans and answer questions.
We’ve done our best to pass along what we’ve heard at public meetings and from neighbors.
We’ve also reached out to MassBay and the Division of Capital Asset Management & Maintenance, a state agency involved in this.
A resident who was part of an August meeting between MassBay and neighbors said at the start of a recent Select Board meeting that MassBay is proposing development of 180 market rate units and parking to replace the current 5-acre parking lot on Oakland Street. The sale of property to a private developer would fund or help fund a proposed $70m educational building and new student parking behind it on the main campus, she said.
There was also talk of a possible conservation restriction within MassBay forest property.
The MassBay property is right near the Sisters of Charity land that has been the topic of development talk as well.
