Wellesley’s We Rock the Spectrum gym set to close at end of September

September 3, 2025 by Bob Brown

The We Rock the Spectrum sensory gym at 34 Central St., in Wellesley Square is slated to close permanently on Sept. 27.

“Unfortunately, financial strains have made it impossible to continue,” according to a statement issued by the business, which opened in 2021. “Over our nearly four wonderful years, we’ve built an inclusive haven for kids of all abilities, thanks to the unwavering support of our incredible community. Together, we’ve achieved so much, providing after-school respite care, organizing inclusive events, and fostering a nurturing spirit.”

During We Rock the Spectrum’s time in Wellesley, the team behind it has been honored by various organizations, including the Boston Celtics.

The gym was forced to close for a spell earlier this year after the space got flooded.

We Rock the Spectrum

The gym was opened by sisters Melissa Defay and Sherley Brice. Defay has a son with autism, and he was the inspiration for the business launch. Their gym was one of about 200 such franchises across the country.
