Wellesley business buzz: Stricter parking rules ahead at Central Plaza lot; Thanking sponsors

October 6, 2025 by Bob Brown

The latest Wellesley, Mass. business news:

Stricter parking rules ahead at Central Plaza lot

Linear Retail is putting in a place a parking system for its lot behind Central Plaza at 74-102 Central Street (at Cross Street & Weston Road) in Wellesley Square that will allow its tenants’ customers to get validated but require others to pay—a lot.

As in, $25 an hour, per an announcement on the town website. You could buy three Shake Shack shakes for that money.

You’ll be able to get free validated parking if you’re shopping at Shake Shack, Alta Strada, Wellesley Books, or one of the other tenants on that block, but otherwise you’ll have the option to share your data and pay.

Linear is partnering with Vend Park, which describes itself as “the only AI-powered parking technology solution proven to increase revenue, decrease expenses, and improve the driver experience.”

The town of Wellesley offers parking at municipal lots for way less than $25 an hour. Spaces are available at the rate of 5¢ for 5 minutes, 10¢ for 10 minutes, 25¢ for 30 minutes, and 50¢ for an hour.

Really, let’s just avoid this lot, and if the lot owners push the limits, avoid the businesses as well. “Al parking” may be the least intelligent thing I’ve seen.
