Wellesley’s Jim Barri says their street isn’t one that typically attracts many trick-or-treaters, but he and his family are giving Halloween revelers a reason to make the trip.

Barri and his family have been collecting animatronics and setting up their yard for the last 6-plus years, and moving into a larger house in town a couple of years ago allowed the spectacular to expand.

2024 was the first year they went all out in the garage, turning it into a “mini-labyrinth” with what Barri calls more professional animatronics bolstered by air compressors. They’ve been working on this year’s set-up since September.

When asked what inspired Barri to deck out his family’s garage and yard for Halloween, he points to his son.

“It’s really all driven by our 14-year-old son, who for many years has identified animatronics, props, costumes, etc., to decorate our yard in a way that would make it a fun and unique experience for trick or treaters,” Barri says. “It’s been a good bonding experience for him and me.”

The garage is a mix of alien and fright, with a circus theme in the backyard and a mix of Halloween animatronics out front. Little kids might be best off avoiding the scares in the garage, Barri says.

The plan this season is to open the attraction on Friday, Halloween night, and Saturday, Nov. 1, from 5-9:30pm. Barri’s son’s friends will add to the spookiness on Friday as actors. If it’s raining, the animatronics will need to be covered.
