Wellesley town election ’26 update: Natural Resources Commission has a candidate

One new candidate has emerged this week for an open Wellesley town-wide office seat: Ed Chazen has pulled papers for one of two open Natural Resources Commission slots, according to the Town Clerk’s office.

The 5-member NRC “oversees the use, preservation and protection of the town’s parks and conservation areas, serves as tree warden, sets policies for insect control and pesticide use, and protects the town watershed areas.” Two 3-year terms are open heading into the March 3 town election.

Chazen is no stranger to serving in Wellesley town government. A real estate development, finance, and investment expert who teaches at Boston College, Chazen was an elected Planning Board member in the early 2000s.

In 2021, we wrote about a study that Chazen conducted to explore alternative uses for the Wellesley Community Center property at 219 Washington St.

More recently, Chazen has been serving on Wellesley’s Residential Incentive Overlay (RIO) Task Force.

He is one of 15 people to pull papers for town-wide office to date. Nomination papers are available at the Town Clerk’s Office. Papers for town-wide offices must be pulled by Jan. 9 and Town Meeting member papers must be pulled by Jan. 23. More information on requirements can be found on the town website.
