What’s open and closed during the New Year holiday in Wellesley, 2025-26

The Town of Wellesley will follow a holiday schedule during the New Year holiday. Here’s the breakdown:

Wellesley municipal buildings, DPW, and the RDF

  • Wednesday, December 31 – all offices close at NOON
  • Thursday, January 1, 2026 – CLOSED all day

Regular business hours resume on Friday, Jan. 2. Please check the Town website and the Wellesley Free Library website as specific department hours vary.

All school buildings will be closed for winter break Wednesday, December 24, 2025 – Friday, Jan. 2, 2026

Special note—New Year’s Eve celebration on Cochituate Rail Trail

EVENT: New Year’s Eve celebration
DATE: Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025
TIME: 4:30pm-7:30pm
LOCATION: Cochituate Rail Trail in Natick and Framingham
DESCRIPTION: Friends of Natick Trails and Friends of Framingham Trails will host the 5th New Year’s Eve celebration on the Cochituate Rail Trail in both towns. The always fun event is a family friendly way to say goodbye to 2025 and march on toward 2026. The event will feature numerous fire pit stations with snacks, beverages, food trucks, entertainment, and giveaways.


The gift of free parking won’t last forever (sigh!)

Free parking at all bagged 2-hour street meters continues through Saturday, January 3. Parking meter fee collections resume on Monday, January 5.

Banks, post offices, and the UPS store are closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Legally, Massachusetts grocery stores cannot open on Christmas Day.

  • Fells Market: closed Dec. 25 & 26 AND New Year’s Day
  • Roche Bros: closed Dec. 25
  • Whole Foods: closed Dec. 25

Convenience stores are allowed to open, but that depends on individual management decisions. So call ahead.

Liquor stores are also closed on Christmas Day.
